Job Summary

This role reports to the Controller and is responsible for accurate revenue and consumption reporting and monthly accruals for 3 states and 250K customers. Monthly Reporting write up to President includes analysis of current and prior month accruals, consumption variances, revenue variances, weather, key industrial customers, and any other variables relevant to earned revenues. This analysis is used to support monthly revenue decoupling entries. This role is also responsible for company-wide Revenue and Consumption budget development.

 

In addition, this role is responsible for operational efficiency analytics for 70 separate water systems. This requires compilation of data from Supply Operations, Billing Systems, and leak management systems in order to prioritize monthly field resources effectively. This data is also used to generate annual and semi-annual PURA, DPU and PUC (state required) reporting.

 

Use of Business Objects is a key area of focus, one which will enhance productivity of the entire Finance group through development of Reports and Analytics. This includes development of both internal and external consumption reporting and metrics.

This role requires mature, independent judgment and requires ability to comprehend complex business processes.

Principal Responsibilities

Month end

  • Fixed/Variable Revenue/billing reporting- CT, MA and NH.
  • Track and analyze volume by region and by class
  • Review all out-sorted unbilled documents and release after evaluation
  • Update unbilled revenue (day 2)
  • Provide detailed analysis of accuracy and variances to prior month’s accrual
  • Update all weather information from 4 NOAA weather stations and chart comparisons as appropriate to support billing and revenue results
  • Update Revenue Book which includes fixed and variable billing, consumption, bill counts, monthly accrual and all “other” revenues and reconcile back to SAP booked results.
  • Provide monthly write-up to President detailing the above with analysis of MTD and YTD variances of Revenue, Consumption, and their meaning.

 

Budgets

  • Generate revenue budgets for CT, MA and NH
  • CT Budgets require dual models between PURA allowed revenue and expected revenue and decoupling values.
  • Budget consumption according to master meter reading schedule by MRU and class factoring in number of days, by month for all business units. This creates the standard by which actual results can be compared.Non Revenue Water (Leak/Loss control)

  • Review data and prioritize system needs prior to monthly meeting with key stakeholders.
  • Meet with supply operations and utility operations and review data to prioritize field resources.

Principal Responsibilities Continued

Non Revenue Water (Leak/Loss control)

  • Provide all data to support Annual and Semi Annual PURA Non Revenue reporting for each of 70 systems.
  • Compile data monthly from SAP/BOBJ and Hach Wims to track system delivery in 70 systems which includes 2 years of trend data for comparison.
  • Analyze each system for Non Revenue Water trends utilizing billing, supply, leak and main break data (SAP/BW/Hach Wims). This includes charting all systems to view trends easily.
  • Review data and prioritize system needs prior to monthly meeting with key stakeholders.
  • Meet with supply operations and utility operations and review data to prioritize field resources.

 

Conservation

  • Provide ongoing data support to conservation efforts. This includes
    • Identification of high users in impacted systems
    • Creation and distribution of customized reports for Golf Courses
    • Call list generation in drought conditions for special outbound customer communications.
    • Analysis of usage patterns in high risk areas.
  • Support marketing with data requests for use in corporate website updates as well as communications with town managers to highlight conservation requirements.
  • Analyze on site conservation evaluations for accuracy and propose action plans

Principal Responsibilites Continued

Ad hoc

  • Support Engineering in water system data requests for use in project prioritization and hydraulic models.
  • Work with GIS team to validate data and correct errors in posting to SAP for ongoing database maintenance.
  • Work on special projects as required with all business units. Support change through collaboration, brainstorming, asking questions and thinking outside the box.
  • Provide front line interface between business units and IT for data requests and report development. Analyze business needs and processes to determine if systems solutions are advisable and available. Develop detailed requirements documentation for changes, enhancements and new developments.

Preferred Requirements

  • Advanced excel skills are required including pivot tables and VLookups.
  • Adept at reporting using SAP/Business Objects, Hach Wims and GIS.
  • A minimum 5 years experience in report and process development, advanced excel and database skills, and SAP.

Education/Certifications

  • Bachelors degree in Finance or Accounting.

Salary

After 3 months of successful employment, this role will be eligible for a hybrid schedule (3 days office/2 days remote).

Job is classified as an exempt position with an annual salary range of $98,000 - $105,000.
