Job Summary

The (Class II) Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining wastewater treatment, processing, pumping, collection system, disposal, and testing equipment. required. This role will be accountable to the Chief Operator and the Manager of Wastewater Operations.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain equipment, tanks, and other work areas.
  • Maintain clean working areas and vehicles.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues related to pumping and treatment processes.
  • Complete collection system inspections of manholes and piping.
  • Complete sampling and other duties to maintain the facilities.
  • Complete FOG inspections and other inspections for new services and work completed in the vicinity of sewer facilities and structures.
  • Assist in meeting all related permits and associated state and federal regulations; and meeting the Company’s key performance indicators.
  • Assist in operation of the wastewater treatment plant process and equipment; pumping stations, and collection system to ensure compliance with the NPDES permit and meet company performance targets.
  • Assists as needed in completion of reports, records, logs, graphs, and information within SCADA to confirm systems are operating properly and that needed materials and resources are in place for proper operation of the wastewater facilities.
  • Assists in monitoring operating conditions, meters, gauges, treatment cycles, pumping equipment, and collection system for proper operation.
  • Assists in the inspection of all facilities on a scheduled basis to ensure proper operation and maintenance.
  • Identify improvements to improve reliability, regulatory compliance, and cost effectiveness.
  • Works with the Chief Operator, Shift Operator and Manager of Wastewater Operations to maintain facilities, address safety issues, maintain proper plant appearance, address environmental issues, and ensure compliance with regulations and permits pertaining wastewater discharges, pollution prevention, stormwater, generator use and other federal and state regulations.
  • Maintains positive relationships with operations and administrative staff, community officials, regulators, and customers.
  • Implements CMOM Plan related to wastewater collection system.
  • Assist in meeting safety and other performance metrics on a monthly and yearly basis.
  • Works in standby role and is available for emergency calls and as need and working extended hours to accommodate operational needs and requirements.

Preferred Requirements

  • Understanding and experience with wastewater processes, industry, SCADA, data management and reporting.
  • Ability to operate equipment, machines, pumps, and wastewater treatment process to meet or exceed permit and process requirements.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to help others, provide training and take on additional responsibilities.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with ability to diagnose process and mechanical problems; determine root cause and take corrective action.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills with experience with Microsoft Products (Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, TEAMS) and SAP.
  • Proficient with use and operation of SCADA, WIMS, auto dialers and other communication and measurement equipment.
  • Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.  CDL and hoisting preferred.
  • Experience in operation of Vac Truck and inspection of sewer collection system using cameras and other equipment.
  • Ability to complete various task that require standing, sitting, and walking throughout the day and will be required to use stairs and ladders. 
  • While performing work the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, or hear, and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch and enter confined spaces.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. May occasionally be required to lift 50 to 60 pounds.
  • Problem Solving: Responsible for creating innovative solutions to variable, non-recurring problems quickly, effectively, and economically.  Industry, technical, trade and different local regulatory bodies are constantly evolving or changing the environment in which decisions are made.
  • Accountability: Accountable to the Chief Operator and the Manager of Wastewater Operations for operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment, pumping and collection systems.

Education/Certifications

  • CT Class II Wastewater Treatment License required.
  • OHSA 10 and Confined Space Training preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record required; CDL and hoisting preferred.

Salary

  • Job is classified as a non-exempt position with an annual salary range of $82,891.65 to $90,850.72.
  • This position is broken into 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute non-paid lunch period.
  • This position will be reporting to the Ansonia Wastewater Treatment Plant (Ansonia, CT).
