The Supervisor, Distribution, reports directly to the Manager, Utility Operations. This position schedules, coordinates and provides field supervision of activities and staff, responsible for one or more Distribution functions. The Supervisor, Distribution reviews, resolves and makes recommendations to the Manager, Utility Operations on operational improvements related to the Distribution function in the E/W/C Division. Duties and responsibilities include after hours emergency support for field operations.

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:

•    Supervises and directs the activities of staff including work assignment, performance evaluation, and employee development; participates in employee selection, disciplinary action, and complaint resolution.
•    Schedules, coordinates and provides field supervision of staff involved in maintenance, break fix and new construction activities of distribution system.
•    Plan, prioritize, assign, and review all activities related to the Company’s maintenance programs (including, hydrants, valves, leak survey and flushing).
•    Expedites work flow, diagnoses and remedies day-to-day problems, assigns and instructs field employees.
•    Executes and maintains required maintenance program in accordance with the regulatory agency requirements in Connecticut (PURA).
•    Establish schedules and methods for providing maintenance services: identify resource needs: review needs with Manager of UOPs and allocate resources accordingly.
•    Participate in the development of department goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures.  Make recommendations for implementing and improvements to existing standards and SOP’s.  Monitors work activities to ensure compliance.
•    Interfaces on a daily basis with our customer service department to resolve customer complaints for distribution system operations.
•    Insures maintenance of parts, materials and equipment to allow continuous operation.
•    Manages the emergency response to system failures with contractors or department emergency response crews.
•    Ensures proactive and positive labor relations, providing a climate where employees are encouraged to express views and receive answers in a timely manner.
•    Ensures that employees are provided with and maintain a progressive occupational health and safety program, in accordance with Company policy.
•    Required to maintain records, logs, maps, tap cards, etc.
•    Responsible for maintaining daily, weekly, and monthly communication with the E/W/C Operations coordinating system operations, addressing non-revenue water control, and implementing water quality preservation programs
•    Perform inspection and supervision of contractors involved in emergency repair or capital programs.
•    Other duties as assigned.   

 

Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with emphasis on mechanics or technology; a minimum of seven (7) years experience in the utility environment, including two years of lead or supervisory experience.  Must possess a CT Class III Distribution license, or the ability to attain within 18 months of acceptance of position.  Excellent communications, troubleshooting, and employee relations skills are required.  Excellent interpersonal, communication, leadership and organizational skills.  Ability to act in a self directed manner and make field decisions with minimal supervisory input.    

 

Job is classified as an exempt position with an annual salary range of $76,960 to $115,440.  An appropriate pay level will be determined for the successful applicant by using the midpoint $96,200 as the target for a seasoned employee in the position.
